For a night in 2014, Elva Carri found herself alone and frustrated she didn’t have anyone to go out dancing with friday.
An image that explained that she was a woman just looking for friends to have a night out with in a last-ditch effort to find a friend in Dublin, Ireland, where she was living and working as a freelance journalist at the time, Carri did something unusual: She changed the gender setting on her Tinder account to male, indicated she was interested in women, and made her profile picture.
Within twenty four hours she had a huge selection of matches.
“I happened to be overrun. I was thinking you will have to be form of psychological to swipe with this person who probably appeared to be a catfish,” Carri told company Insider.
The ladies whom swiped close to Carri four years back were the start of a grouped community that resulted in the creation of Girlcrew, a meetup application for ladies to create buddies. The application, which recently established within the U.S., has 100,000 users global вЂ” and has gotten help from prominent leaders in technology, including LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner and RedditвЂ™s manager of information technology.
